Greenwoods Theatre Begins Fourth Season

Greenwoods Theatre Begins Fourth Season

June 22 marks the beginning of the fourth season at Greenwoods Theatre in Norfolk, bringing to the stage a remarkable range of work including A Private Buffoon, a one-man musical about the legendary Gilbert and Sullivan; Feydolio, two farces newly translated from work by France's Georges Feydeau; The Living Section, an original musical comedy written by Maura Cavanagh and Richard Smithies; and two celebrated thrillers, Sleuth and Wait Until Dark.

"We've chosen these productions because they are fresh, smart, and extremely entertaining," stated Ms. Cavanagh, the producer. "We have always been very selective in our choice of materials because as writers and producers we know that first-class writing presented in a fresh and stylish fashion is an idea whose time has come. Too often today special effects are substituted for writing and acting, and we have found that our audiences welcome the return to the real thing as much as we take pride in delivering it."

Material is also selected on the basis of it being appropriate to the theater itself. "We seek to stage productions from all eras. The theater was built in 1883 and has been restored to its original glory. In seating 290, it provides for an intimate atmosphere, and the audience becomes a part of me performance. Our staging is simple, the acoustics superb, and our company of actors, drawn from New York and also including a number of exceptionally talented local professionals, provides for a unique level of accessibility, entertainment and great fun. There's not a bad seat in the house," said Ms. Cavanagh.

Located in Connecticut's beautiful Northwest Corner on Route 44 in Norfolk, Greenwoods Theatre is owned and managed by actor/ director Richard Smithies and producer Maura Cavanagh. Reservations may be made by calling the theater at 860-542-0026.
