Theater Party for South Pacific In conjunction with their current production of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific, the Barrington Stage Company invites Connecticut residents to enjoy a special evening of dinner, conviviality and great theater on Thursday, June 27. The event, hosted by BSC board member Roberta Olsen, begins at 5 p.m. with a buffet dinner at The Boathouse, 349 Main St. in Lakeville. At 7 p.m., theatergoers will proceed to the Consolati Performing Arts Center in Sheffield in time for a pre-show talk by the Barrington Stage's Founder and Artistic Director, Julie Boyd. Curtain for Boyd's earthy, passionate production of South Pacific is at 8 p.m. Winner of nine Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize, South Pacific is considered to be one of the greatest musicals of all time. In it, the unparalleled team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, Jr. created some of the most enduring standards in Broadway history: "Some Enchanted Evening," "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair," "Younger Than Springtime," "Bali Hai" and "There's Nothing Like a Dame," among them. This immortal music combines with an affecting story about recognizable people, and a forthright view of social issues to make South Pacific an emblem of the soaring heights to which musical theater can rise. The price for this very special evening of theater and dining is $45; there will be a cash bar. Reservations can be made by contacting Griffin Gardner, director of audience services, at 413-528-8806. |
