"Dog Dazed," ceramic by Kathy Ruttenberg
Paris-New York-Kent Gallery, located in the Kent Station Square in Kent, opens a new exhibition on Saturday, June 22 with a reception from 3-5 p.m. for artists Cleve Gray and Kathy Ruttenberg.
Cleve Gray is one of the great artists of the 20th century. About his new show, he has stated: "Through a series of happy coincidences I started painting with watercolors, a medium I hadn’t touched in almost fifty years. I have entitled these works ‘Interplay" to reflect how enchanted I was by the action of the medium with so little help from me. I worked under that spell totally bewitched for eighteen months."
Kathy Ruttenberg is definitely a young master with an extraordinary art destiny. She says: "Not unlike fable, myth or folklore, my work has a tattered history woven into its core. Playfulness is an important addition to my sculptures. The childlike straightforwardness is inspired by the medium which is clay. I like to think of my work as human stories with a twist that adds an ironic edge in which titles, mediums and concepts can all play a part."
The show will run through July 21. Gallery hours are Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; for more info call 860-927-4152.
