On Lyme Disease and the 5th District Race
Richard Johnston is so right in advising Voice readers that Lyme disease can be treated with antibiotics, if diagnosed quickly. [Lyme Disease Can Be Dangerous for Dogs, Too; June 14] At the end of April, my dog Shana became lame. The next day I took her to Candlewood Animal Hospital in New Milford and Dr. James E. Howell saw that one of her hind legs was swollen. He diagnosed Lyme, prescribed antibiotics and assured me that Shana should be better in 48 hours. By that afternoon, the antibiotics began their work and Shana was again walking on all fours, thanks to Dr. Howell.

Support Winchester Alternate High School
My son is a student at the Winchester Alternate School. He has absolutely flourished and excelled at the Alternate High School. The faculty and staff, from the principal down to the cafeteria staff, have been large-hearted and sensational, and their dedication and expertise in education are to be commended. They have been very valuable, and I would like to express sincere gratitude to all involved in my son’s educational success.

Supporting Israel Is in America’s Best Interest
Edward LeHoskey, in his vicious anti-Israeli article "More Reasons to Vote" [June 14], writes that he has been following events there since the end of World War II. I wonder if he's aware that during this war the natural Palestinian leader at that time, Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, the man who stirred up Arab rioters to massacre Jews in the late ‘20s and ‘30s, spent most of the war years as Hitler's guest in Berlin. During this time he recruited Balkan Muslims for the infamous SS, and also broadcast radio messages back to the Mideast calling on Muslims to kill Jews. His hatred of Jews seems to have been passed down to his nephew, Yasser Arafat, who years ago changed his name in an attempt to hide the connection to his notorious uncle.

A Disturbing Trend in Local Law Enforcement
Everyday people are overlooking local law enforcement now that national security is of the highest priority. Now, in the eyes of the public, all the heroes are only in New York or Afghanistan, protecting American freedoms. It came to my attention that local law enforcement has recently been very active and efficient in many areas, and distinctively different in others.

King James Is Good, But Not the Best
I'd like to respond briefly to Marcel LeRoy's response [Translated for the Glory of God, June 7] to Darril Deaton's King James Version article [Weighing In on the Translation Issue, May 24]. Mr. LeRoy was undoubtedly upset by Dr. Deaton's excellently written article showing many obvious weaknesses in the King James Version Only arguments against those of us who believe other translations of the Bible are not just equal to, but in some case much better and far more accurate than the King James Version of the Bible. There are thousands of manuscripts available today that hadn't been discovered when the KJV translators did their work in 1611.

Providing Liberty for Our Children
In April, the Supreme Court of our land voted on the constitutionality of a law intended to crack down on the production and distribution of virtual (another name for extremely realistic) images of children in pornographic situations. This group of nine appointed individuals voted with a 6-3 majority to favor the rights of the licentious over the rights of the innocent. (The Supreme Court case was Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition; the law being challenged was a part of the Child Pornography Prevention Act of 1996.)

Love Is Forever
Our Precious Loving Father gave both of us a special gift—a measure of love, to be shared, cherished and nurtured, for always. We did just that for period of time, and the tender plant of love flourished and grew into a feeling of fulfillment and mutual joy. Time passed.

Abortion Is the Taking of a Life
Gabrielle Bernard writes in support of abortion, denigrating Christian beliefs and surreptitiously equating them with Taliban terrorists [Homegrown Religious Fanaticism, June 7]. Her article contains many errors. By equating Christians with the Taliban, which is the liberal’s cause du jour, and stating that Tip O’Neil, Geraldine Ferraro and Mario Cuomo were superb public servants, she is telling us that she is a far-left liberal. Most liberals, though claiming to be Christians or Jews, throw out the Bible and all of its commands and admonishments.

The Pro-Choice Movement's Intellectual Lineage
I have to hand it to Gabrielle Bernard. Her "Homegrown Religious Fanaticism" [June 7] may be the most anti-Catholic letter I have ever read in The Voice. Long-time readers of this paper will understand why I am impressed, as there has been stiff competition for that title. In just twelve paragraphs Ms. Bernard manages to regurgitate almost every anti-Catholic canard and misstatement of fact the pro-abortion left has ever thrown at us. So let's open up these chestnuts and see what she's got.
