Batcheller School Annual Awards

The Batcheller School in Winsted held its Annual Awards Assembly on June 14. The following students were honored.

The President’s Award for Educational Excellence is given nationwide to students at the exit grade of each school. At Batcheller, the fifth graders who achieved the 85th percentile and above were Lindsey Coons, Benjamin Martin, Alan Nero, Eric Parsons, Sean Simmons, and Melanie Welcome.

The President’s Award for Educational Achievement recognizes students who show outstanding educational growth, improvement, commitment or intellectual development in their academic subjects but do not meet the criteria of the President’s Award for Educational Excellence. Rebecca Alexander, Jordan Cesca, Ryan Fallon, Evan Gibb, Ethan Hampton, and Salvatore Lovetere received this award.

Batcheller Prizes were awarded to three boys and three girls in grades four and five in each of five categories–Spelling, English, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics–with cash awards given from the William Batcheller Trust Fund.

Fourth grade Spelling prizes were awarded to Brooke Davis, Patrick Tracy, Justin Dieter, Sara Marshall, Melissa Ahearn, and Tyler Nelson. English prizes were awarded to Charles McCaw, Marin Nichols, Chelsea Real, Nikolas Karouta, Zachary Campbell, and Shelby Mitchell. Social Studies prizes were awarded to Devon Kulinski, Jennifer Hunter, Victoria Joh, Ross Lopardo, Austin Tirado, and Chelsey Gerlat. Science prizes were awarded to Shelby Winn, Zachary Campbell, Nicholas Sartirana, Marin Nichols, Lauren Joy, and Alec Brochu. Mathematics prizes were awarded to Ross Lopardo, Lauren McGrane, Maressa Zabbara, Brandon Wilkinson, Devon Kulinski, and Victoria Joh.

Fifth grade Spelling prizes were awarded to Benjamin Martin, Amber Canty, Amanda Willis, Nathan Monka, Ethan Hampton, and Cheyenne Maragnano. English prizes were awarded to Lindsey Coons, Evan Gibb, Colin Kolek, Nicole Garafalo, Melanie Welcome, and Jacob Heins. Social Studies prizes were awarded to Eric Parsons, Katie Inman, Katie LaChance, Ethan Hampton, Salvatore Lovetere, and Rebecca Alexander. Science prizes were awarded to Nicole Garafalo, Sean Simmons, Evan Gibb, Jazmon LaTour, Karen Gundlach, and Alan Nero. Mathematics prizes were awarded to Steven Guralnick, Lindsey Coons, Melanie Welcome, Eric Parsons, Alan Nero, and Rebecca Alexander.

The Batcheller Owl Award is given to one fifth grade student who displays a high degree of citizenship, integrity, fair play and academic success. This year, Nicole Garafalo was honored.
