55th Annual House Tour in Litchfield
     The 55th annual Open House Day Tour of Litchfield to benefit the CT Junior Republic (CJR) will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., rain or shine. Conducted by the Litchfield Aid of CJR, a voluntary organization, the tour will feature six private residences and several historic points of interest.

Punch and Judy Alive and Well in Litchfield
     Mr. Punch and his delightful wife Judy, puppet performers for over 400 years, are returning to the Litchfield Historical Society's Children's Summer Series on Wednesday, July 10 at 11 a.m. The whole family will enjoy the noisy, rowdy fun of these traditional puppets.

Art Show at Torrington City Hall
     A show featuring artwork by people with developmental disabilities is currently on display in the 2nd floor auditorium at City Hall in Torrington. The local artists are consumers from Transitional Employment Unlimited (TEC), Litchfield County Association for Retarded Citizens (LARC), and Baroco.

Celebration of "The American Century" in Norfolk
     On Sunday, July 14 at 3 p.m., the Litchfield County Choral Union, under the direction of Jonathan F. Babbitt with the LCCU Festival Orchestra, will perform a collection of works by Aaron Copland, a great American composer, featuring his "Fanfare for the Common Man," "Old American Songs" and others. The concert will be presented in The Shed located on the grounds of the beautiful Ellen Battell Stoeckel Estate on Route 44 in Norfolk.

Circus Smirkus Rides Into Simsbury
     Yee-ha! Pull on your boots, grab your Stetson, and get ready to ride off into the sunset with the Circus Smirkus Summer Big Top Tour! The Cobb School, Montessori proudly presents this award-winning international youth circus—named "One of America's Best Circuses" by Family Fun magazine—for six full-length Wild West shows on Friday and Saturday, July 19-20 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, July 21 at noon and 4 p.m. at Weatogue Park, Route 10 in Simsbury.

Lincoln Futures Golf Classic in Avon
     Blue Fox Run in Avon will be the venue during the week of July 17 for the $60,000 Lincoln Futures Golf Classic, a stop on the women’s Futures professional golf tour. The Futures Tour is the official developmental tour of the Ladies’ Professional Golf Association, providing the avenue for more than 300 promising women players to hone their skills and qualify for the LPGA tour. At each stop, up to 144 players compete in a 3-day tournament for prize money. In host communities, the tour supports a local charity and draws widespread regional involvement. Since 1989, Futures events have raised over $2.5 million for charitable organizations like Chip In for a Cure.

Annual Butterfly Count at Roaring Brook Nature Center
     Roaring Brook Nature Center, 70 Gracey Rd. in Canton sponsors the tenth annual Farmington Valley Butterfly Count on Saturday, July 20. During the count, butterfly watchers will comb area fields and wildflower gardens in search of the almost 50 species of butterflies that inhabit our area, in order to survey changes in local butterfly populations. Results of the count are submitted to the Connecticut chapter of the North American Butterfly Association for publication.

     The Berkshire Botanical Garden will honor Jane and Jack Fitzpatrick at the Garden's summer cocktail gala, Fête des Fleurs Encore, to be held on Saturday, July 20 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Elm Court, 310 Old Stockbridge Rd. in Stockbridge.

The Music Man at Thomaston Opera House
     "Oh, we got trouble! Right here in River City! With a capital ‘T’ and that rhymes with ‘P’ and that stands for pool!" The Thomaston Opera House will present Meredith Willson’s classic musical The Music Man for eight performances beginning July 20 and running through August 3. The Music Man opened on Broadway on December 19, 1957 starring Robert Preston as the irresistible con man, Harold Hill, who sings and dances his way into the lives of the innocent folks of sleepy River City, Iowa. Barbara Cook played Marian. The score features such songs as "Seventy-six Trombones," "Trouble," "Till There Was You," "Pickalittle" and "Gary, Indiana."
