Who Will Pay the Fines?
As I looked through the Wednesday morning papers on June 26, I saw the usual array of depressing news. The "good" news is that I found two articles that told of how our government is really putting business in its place. But are things really as they seem?

The Consuming Quest for World Peace
The many critical confrontations in the world—Israel vs. Palestine, India vs. Pakistan, the world vs. terrorists, etc.—demand more reaction from the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The members of the UN and NATO must realize that they have a mandate to preserve peace on earth, and they should do their utmost to be true to their obligations and therefore wholeheartedly unite with our nation in its consuming quest for world peace. The US. should not be the only defender of world peace.

I’m Not Anti-Israel
On the contrary, Mr. Marvin Peyser [Supporting Israel Is in America’s Best Interest, June 21], I’m definitely not vicious, nor am I anti-Israel. I am an American and I am very unhappy with the course my country is on. Our founding fathers came here to get away from strife and oppression in other parts of the world. Their advice to us was not to get involved in Old World problems. There is no doubt in my mind, and the minds of many others, Mr. Peyser, that Israeli lobbies have taken over our Congress. How have we allowed this to happen? Politicians cater to large groups, Mr. Peyser. The Jewish vote is somewhat akin to the teachers’ union. If you want to be elected, or re-elected, treat both well.

Israel — Liability or Asset?
Marvin Peyser, in his long letter in the June 21 issue of The Voice [Supporting Israel Is in America's Best Interest], just doesn't convince me. First of all, in referring to Edward LeHoskey's submission "More Reasons to Vote" [June 14], Mr. Peyser used the words "vicious anti-Israeli article." In my opinion Mr. LeHoskey's letter was right on the mark. It was not vicious, nor anti-Israeli; rather, it stuck with the facts.

An Excellent Rebuttal
Congratulations to Mr. Peter Wolfgang concerning his excellent rebuttal [The Pro-Choice Movement’s Intellectual Lineage, June 21] to Ms. Gabrielle Bernard’s pro-abortion article [Homegrown Religious Fanaticism, June 7]. His arguments were scholarly, academic and, most importantly, dispassionate. One rarely finds any argument concerning abortion, pro or con, that isn’t loaded with emotional pleas, prejudicial mischaracterizations and political rhetoric.

We Don’t Have Another 400 Years
I hesitate to answer Peter Wolfgang's tirade [The Pro-Choice Movement's Intellectual Lineage, June 21]. This tit-for-tat exchange does not change anyone's opinion; we are each preaching to our own choirs and will probably be reduced to which of us can quote the most obscure 12th century monk. As a student of early church history, I must say I have never encountered the 1st century Didache's harangue against abortion, but I'm quite sure that if one examines the documents of those early turbulent years of Christianity one could also find married priests, women priests, and a communistic sharing of worldly wealth that would shock modern-day Catholics.
