In grade-school civics, students learn that those elected to the House and Senate are there to protect our freedom. But here’s a touch of reality not supplied in class:

• Profiles in Greed — Congress votes a pay raise during a war and recession while they order our youth to defend democracy in Godforsaken places.

• Profiles in "Courage" — Pols run for exits upon encountering Anthrax dust while ordering youth to defend democracy.

As a wise man once said: "Where in the world is a man whom a poor gal can trust?" Where in the world can a pol be trusted to do that which is proper and right? Not for the privileged few, but for the hapless many …
