The Refreshing Summer

By Arlene Ascenzo, Torrington

And so, as the day unwinds, my thoughts yield themselves to summer and its fancies. The 90- to 100-degree three-day heat wave is just an indication of the season's predictability.

As I sit, pondering which CD I should play on my boom box (a relaxing and enjoyable hobby), a cool wind blows in through my window—telling me a summer storm is about to brew. I, anxious at the moment, actually treasure the downpour of rain on a summer night. Its refreshing zeal and momentous contentment almost give me a shiver of delight.

After the storm the temperature levels off and the days and nights become cooler and much easier to appreciate. Perhaps if I'm lucky I'll see a puddle with the pleasant surprise of a rainbow in it. Rainbows signify the beauty of life.

And right now as I sit here quietly listening to the night rainfall, my heart, mind, body and soul are in complete awe.
