Let’s Pass This Budget By Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pfaefflin, Winsted On Saturday, July 20, voters in the Town of Winchester will vote either to lower taxes or to send the proposed budget back to the selectmen, who will then propose new tax increases. I am amazed to hear our town leaders moan and groan concerning what would happen should this budget be approved. Pure gloom and doom, they cry—primarily because they have forgotten such things as efficiency, productivity or liability. We have had empire-building in the school and town governments for some time without much improvement, and more and more money has been spent without accountability or improvement. We need better management skills to stop the bleeding, because we cannot afford the unrealistic spending habits of our town leaders. Because these leaders failed to listen to the voters, we the taxpayers took the fat out of this budget—so let's pass it … Vote YES on Saturday! |
