Fly the Stars and Stripes Proudly
To the person or persons who stole the American flag and flagpole off of our porch this past weekend while we were out of town: We hope you are flying the Stars and Stripes as proudly as we did. We have always flown the American flag outside our home, until now. Over the years, we have had to replace several American flags, all due to weathering and deterioration. Every one has been disposed of in an appropriate manner, in accordance with tradition and protocol. The one you stole happened to be a brand new one, bought just two months ago from a lovely new store in Canton called "We Do Wind." We could have purchased one for less at Wal-Mart or another big discount store, but we very consciously make an effort to support small, local businesses. After all, the initiative and hard work involved in starting your own business and working to see that it succeeds is what the American Dream is all about, and part of the reason we were so proud to display our country’s flag. We are angered, yet saddened to think that someone could go so far as to steal such an important symbol of our freedom and patriotism. Your callousness and disregard for the property and feelings of others are appalling. Just please try to remember to fly our flag with pride and gratitude for the many men and women who, throughout our country’s history, fought for freedom so that we may enjoy the right to display the flag of the United States of America proudly throughout this country. |
