Friday, August 23

CANTON

: Canton Junior High School holds an orientation program for incoming 7th graders from 8-11 a.m. Students have been mailed an invitation with details of the program; any incoming 7th grader who has not received an invitation should call the junior high office at 693-7712. At the orientation students will meet teachers and administration, receive the student handbook/ planbook, review school rules and procedures, tour the building, receive schedules, and experience an abbreviated class schedule. The program is for students only; no transportation will be provided.

WINSTED

: Winsted United Methodist Church, 630 Main St. (at High St.) holds a Roast Beef Dinner from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Menu includes roast beef and gravy, mashed potatoes, carrots, homemade pie and beverage. TORRINGTON

: The City of Torrington holds a public workshop on the downtown redevelopment project at 6 p.m. at the Yankee Pedlar on Main St. This is the last of a series of sessions that will play an important role in shaping the redevelopment project, and will be a crucial component of the City’s conceptual master plan for downtown. Findings, recommendations, and draft alternative land use maps will be presented at this meeting. Everyone interested in shaping the downtown redevelopment project is encouraged to attend and provide input. There has been a growing acknowledgement that most of us are quite ignorant regarding other religions. This one-hour session is part of a series on the Major Religions of the World that are meant as an introduction to the knowledge we need in today’s world.
