Kent Singers Host Handel’s Messiah Sing-In

Kent Singers Host Handel’s Messiah Sing-In

The Kent Singers will host an Autumn Sing-In featuring choruses from Handel’s Messiah on Wednesday, September 4. All singers are welcome, admission is free and Messiah scores will be provided, though singers who own scores are encouraged to bring them. Singing begins at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church on Main St. (Route 7) in the center of Kent, under the direction of Marguerite Mullee, artistic director of the Kent Singers.

This event marks the beginning of an ambitious season for the Singers, an organization established in 1973 and dedicated to preparing and performing the finest in choral music, from traditional classics to contemporary works. December will bring full performances of the Messiah in Kent and in Danbury as the Kent Singers join forces with the Danbury-based Fanfare Consort, which performs on period instruments.

In the spring, the Singers will prepare a special program in celebration of their 30th anniversary. This fall will see release of the group’s first compact disc, a selection of contemporary works by Connecticut composers.

The Kent Singers, who come from throughout Litchfield County, the Danbury area and neighboring towns in New York and Massachusetts, always welcome new members. Those interested are especially invited to the Sing-In on September 4. For more info about that event or the Kent Singers, call Marie Prentice at 860-672-6261, or Marguerite Mullee at 860-927-5265.
