W.L. Gilbert Trust Receives Painting of Founder
(L-R) Tom Botticelli, Dotty Robbins, JoAnn Briggs, Milly Hudak, Elaine Fortuna and Cindy Gould
The W.L. Gilbert Trust Corporation is pleased to announce the receipt of a painting of William L. Gilbert, founder of The Gilbert School, from the Winchester Historical Society. Accepting the painting on behalf of the Trust was Mrs. JoAnn Briggs, Trust president, and members of the Trust’s committee on historical preservation. Mrs. Briggs was especially delighted, noting that useful, clear likenesses of Mr. Gilbert are very scarce.
The painting had been stored for many years at the Winchester Historical Society. In making the presentation to the Trust, Mrs. Milly Hudak, vice president and treasurer for the Society, commented on the appropriateness of its new home. It will be restored and hung at The Gilbert School, along with portraits of Dr. John Eastman Clarke, the school’s first headmaster, and all subsequent headmasters/ principals.
The Gilbert portrait will hold a special place of honor within the halls of The Gilbert School, which is about to begin its 108th year thanks to the generosity and vision of William L. Gilbert, who provided for its establishment and maintenance more than 100 years ago through his will.
