Colebrook School’s first day of school was a community-wide event. Students arrived as usual at 8:30 a.m. on August 28, followed by over 200 community members to celebrate the start of the school year. Board member and First Day Committee Chair Claudette Baril said, "We want everyone to feel welcome in the school and to participate in whatever way they can. Education is everybody’s business."

In attendance were elected officials, representatives from the Lions Club, Fire Department, Beardsley & Memorial Library and Camp Jewell, as well as clergy, parents and grandparents. Teachers and staff were introduced, followed by tours of the school. Door prizes were provided by local businesses, and an abundance of refreshments and fresh bouquets were provided by parents. The newly established Volunteer Program gained 21 volunteers at the First Day Celebration.

Principal and Superintendent Dave Wittmer said, "It was wonderful to see so many people at the school. This is a great way to start the year—with a celebration of the partnership between school, family and community. We plan to make this an annual event."
