Working Hard for Our Community

By John S. Kovaleski, Torrington

John S. Kovaleski is State Representative from the 65th District.

With the arrival of Labor Day, the 2002 election season is officially upon us. However, as most of you know, the season has been well underway for some time.

I am completing my first term as State Representative from the 65th District in Torrington. It has been an honor serving the citizens of Torrington. During these two years, our community has gotten more funding from the state back to Torrington. I have been working hard and have been getting results for our community.

Although I believe my record of accomplishments has been substantive, the issues before our state are, let’s just say, challenging. Therefore, the question is not what have I done to date, but rather what will I be working on in the session ahead. I will be discussing these issues as the campaign unfolds.

The principal task ahead of us is to meet the needs of our people and to live within our means to meet those needs. The issues will be more complex and our choices more difficult. I welcome the opportunity to work on this challenge as your state representative.

I am currently a member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, which deals with the revenue side of the budget. Hearing your views and concerns is always helpful in my decision-making process. As your representative, I will continue to focus upon addressing the issues in a fiscally sound way. I will also work to increase the state funds coming back into Torrington to ease the tax impact upon local property owners. In addition to the Finance Committee, I serve on the Commerce Committee and Transportation Committee, each of which has played a major role in developments that are ongoing in Torrington.

As your state representative, I work hard to address the problems and concerns that residents have experienced in many areas. I am diligent in providing constituent service. Helping people is both rewarding and, at times, frustrating in not being able to resolve all their issues. I am just a phone call away at 482-0006

I am running for re-election and seeking your support to continue to represent Torrington in the General Assembly. My professional background includes a 33-year career in business at United Technologies Corp., a degree in Economics and two master’s degrees. On a personal basis, I have four adult children and two young grandchildren. My wife Virginia (Kalinowski) and I have lived in Torrington for the past 17 years.

I will use my broad background and my legislative experience and pledge to continue to devote my energy full time to serve as your state representative. I pledge to give the voters of the 65th District and the people of Torrington a strong presence in Hartford.

However, before the campaign season begins in earnest, let us reflect upon the events of a year ago, appreciate the freedoms we have, and give thanks for the opportunity to live in the greatest country in the world.
