I Want to Be Your State Senator
I Want to Be Your State Senator By Kelvin Hecht
Please let me introduce myself. My name is Kelvin Hecht, and I want to be your state senator from the 8th District.
I’ve spent my entire professional career at United Technologies developing a new non-polluting source of electricity, a fuel cell. Developed for the space program, it is now poised to power our cars, homes, businesses and public buildings. At UTC’s Fuel Cell Operation, I was responsible for product safety and reliability, the health and safety of the work force, and the environmental compliance of the facility.
Since retirement in 1997, I have continued to serve the fuel cell industry as chairman of both the United States and the international committees writing fuel cell safety standards. I have also volunteered as a math tutor at Hartford’s Weaver High School (1997-2000) and Avon High School, Project Choice (2000-01).
My primary focus as your senator will be to improve the business climate for high technology manufacturing, public education and environmental affairs. I’m very careful on how I spend my money, and I’d be especially careful spending yours.
I’ve previously served Avon on its Board of Education (1983-91), and in the ‘70s as a member of the Natural Resources and Inland Wetlands Commissions.
I’ve lived in Avon and Simsbury for 35 years with my wife Carolyn. We have three children and five grandchildren.
I will use this forum to present my positions on specific issues. My next article will be on "The Environment."
Connecticut’s 8th Senatorial District includes the communities of Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, East Granby, Granby, Hartland, Harwinton, New Hartford, Norfolk, Plymouth, Simsbury and Winchester.
