: Claire Teague Senior Center hosts a presentation by Guy Morin on the British Soldier in the American Revolution at 11 a.m. Guy will appear as a fully uniformed and equipped soldier of King George III and will discuss the clothing, equipment and weapons from this period of history. His presentation will include an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and to see many of the items carried and used in the 18th century. : First Congregational Church features an authentic German luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. as part of its annual Fall Festival. Menu includes tender weiss wurst, braised red cabbage, sauerkraut, German potato salad, and farmers’ bread. Cost is $10 adults, $5.50 children; eat in or take out.

REGIONAL REFUSE DISTRICT #1

: Regional Refuse Disposal District #1, which serves the towns of Barkhamsted, New Hartford and Winchester, holds a Household Hazardous Waste Collection from 9 a.m.-noon. Residents may bring in household hazardous wastes that cannot be disposed of normally in their trash, such as paint thinners, solvents, pesticides, drain cleaners, herbicides, and automotive chemicals. These items should be left in their original containers; unidentified waste may not be accepted. Residents may also, at no charge, exchange a mercury-containing thermometer used for taking body temperature for a new non-mercury unit. For more info call 379-1972.

: Tunxis Community College, Routes 6 & 177 invites the community to a presentation on Connecticut’s Birth-to-Three Program from 6:30-8 p.m. in Fisher Hall. Tammy Garris, manager of the North Central CT region of the Birth-to-Three system, will speak about services available for families of infants and toddlers with developmental delays. The mission of the system is to strengthen the capacity of families to meet the developmental and health-related needs of their newborn to 3-year-olds who have disabilities, delays, or certain medical conditions that may cause delays. : The League of Women Voters of Litchfield County sponsors a 64th General Assembly House debate between incumbent Roberta Willis (D) and challenger John Morris (R) from 7-8 p.m. at the UConn Torrington campus on University Drive. Questioners for this timed debate will be Brian Brunell, Connecticut bureau chief for New England Cable News, and Ruth Epstein, editor of the Lakeville Journal; the moderator will be Adrian Lyon, director of UConn Torrington. : A dedication of a large tool shed at the Litchfield Community Center on Route 202 will be held at 10 a.m. The shed was designed by Litchfield High School Class of 2002 graduate Christopher Blazek, and was assembled in June by Litchfield High Tech Ed students under the supervision of their instructor, Mr. Neil English. A grant was received from the Litchfield-Morris Rotary Club to cover all material costs.
