Letter to Voters of the 63rd District

By George Wilber, Colebrook

George Wilber is the Democratic candidate for State Representative in the 63rd District, which includes Winchester/ Winsted, Barkhamsted, Hartland, Norfolk, Colebrook, Canaan/ Falls Village, and North Canaan.

With just a few days to go until the election, I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the voters in the 63rd District. My campaign staff and I have been calling you on the phone and sending you information in the mail, and let me first just say thank you for being patient with us. I know it is annoying to be disturbed at home—but maybe, if you think about it, you will recognize that this is something we, unlike so many others around the world, have the freedom to do as part of our democratic process. In addition, I feel quite strongly that if you give me the opportunity to represent you, I will need to know what the issues of concern are for the voters in our district. I will be a representative of the people, and the only way to know what the people want is to talk to them. I thank you for taking the time to discuss the issues with my staff and myself.

The issues that I have found are important to you are the same issues I am dedicated to fighting for. These include property tax reform, healthcare for all, economic stability, the environment, affordable prescription medications and education. I'm not a fancy politician who's interested in telling you what you want to hear. I don't make promises just to get elected. If you elect me, I'll commit to fight for the working citizen and tell you the truth. Sometimes people don't want to hear the truth and politicians promise things they can't do. I'll give you straight talk just as I see it, and that's what you can expect from me.

I've been the First Selectman of Colebrook for 18 years. I've been able to get re-elected because people seem to like what I've done in Colebrook, how I have represented them and, I'd like to think, helped them. I honestly believe I will represent the people of this district in such a way that will make their lives better and in a way that they can be proud of. I will work for all of the citizens of the district regardless of party affiliation.

I sincerely appreciate your involvement and interest in government and hope you will consider supporting me on Election Day, November 5.
