Monday, November 11

BANTAM

: The annual Veterans’ Day service will be conducted at the All Wars Memorial on Route 202 by American Legion Tyler-Seward-Kubish Post 44. The service will start at 10:45 a.m.; at 11 a.m. there will be a moment of silence in remembrance of the armistice that was signed to end World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year 1918. (That’s why Veterans’ Day was originally called Armistice Day.) Veterans’ Day is the one day set aside each year to honor both living and deceased veterans of all wars. A special salute will be rendered to all deceased veterans by placing a wreath at the monument, followed by a three-rifle volley by Post 44’s firing squad. Veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and the general public are invited to attend.

The topic of the evening, led by Rabbi Joseph Eisenbach, is "Shabbos–an island in time." There will be a special children’s program, and babysitting is available. GOSHEN

: The Catholic Inter-Parish Adult Initiative sponsors a program on Exploring Funeral Planning at 2 p.m. in the Church Hall at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 71 North St. (Route 63, north of the rotary). Fr. Stephen Sledesky, Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart and St. Peter parishes in Torrington, will discuss ways to enhance the funeral experience, including making sure loved ones know our wishes for funeral arrangements, selection of music, readings and prayers for Mass. People of all faith traditions are welcome. There is no admission charge, and refreshments will be served.

NORTHFIELD

: Northfield Volunteer Fire Company, 12 Main St. holds a Breakfast from 7:30-11 a.m. The regular menu includes all the pancakes you can eat, sausage, coffee and juice for $4; French toast, eggs and home fries will also be available.
