Thanks for Help During Power Outage

By Ethel Albanesius, Winsted

At this season of the year—a time of thankfulness, good will and remembrance—the residents of The Glen want the Town of Winchester to know how much the various services were appreciated during the power outage.

We were visited first by a member of the police department who asked what he could do for us. The next visitor was Mayor John Forrest, who also was concerned for our safety and needs. Town Manager Margaret Johnson came to knock on doors and tell residents that the Senior Center was open for warmth and food; she also phoned us several times to update us on the repair work. The Salvation Army came to provide hot food and hot drinks and much needed batteries for failing flashlights. Our final visitors were members of the Fire Department, who wanted us to know that they would respond in any way if we needed their help.

We also want to thank our fellow residents for checking on each other and carrying food and drink to those who were unable to leave their apartments. As we gathered in the Community Room by candlelight, we were reminded that even when things are the darkest, there are people who care and want to help. Again, thank you all.
