Thanks to Our Great Neighbors
We were hard hit by the recent ice storm, with power out, trees down along with telephone and cable lines, and debris clogging the dead-end street we live on, restricting travel and access. It was a real downer and moods were dark, but we hadn't factored in our neighbors. Dave Gemmel alerted everyone that he would be volunteering his truck and chipper, and residents of houses came out and followed along, dragging and feeding the downed branches into the chipper. Houses along the way considerately provided food and drink for the workers. It took all day, but the street was restored to normal, and people could get out to stores to buy the goods they needed to weather the power outage, plus a giant cleanup problem each household would have had to face individually was resolved by common effort. Thanksgiving meant more than turkey to us this year, with the knowledge that we have such great neighbors. My thanks to you all. |
