Thanks for Goshen Turkey Trot

By Laurie Mosley, Goshen

This past Thanksgiving Day, I had the opportunity to be part of the Goshen Turkey Trot. What a wonderful way to start out the holiday! The Goshen Running Club should be applauded for the hard work they put into this event.

It seemed the race, which was celebrating its 25-year anniversary, was doomed. Days before the race, the ice storm littered debris over most of the 6.2-mile course, but volunteers jumped into action to help clear the course. Then a snowstorm dropped quite a few inches of snow on the course (the day before), and the morning of the race the temperature struggled to get out of the teens, creating lots of ice patches. The Town of Goshen Highway Department took care of the roads while the Goshen Running Club took care of the racecourse center (the Goshen Fairgrounds) and stations along the way. The day turned out to be beautiful, a bit cold, but really quite enjoyable.

I have lived in Goshen for over ten years and the town and its groups and organizations never cease to amaze me. So many people volunteered their time (on a holiday, no less) to put together a wonderful road race. No wonder this race now includes over 300 participants! At my Thanksgiving Dinner, I included my thanks for being part of an event that involved so many giving volunteers, great athletes, good friends, and a great town!
