Paintings of Kinuko Craft at Norfolk Library The Norfolk Library, Route 44 in Norfolk is honored to showcase the illustrative paintings of Kinuko Craft during the months of December and January. A major figure in contemporary American illustration, Kinuko will personally select paintings for this exhibit from her range of fantasy art, book jackets, poster designs and children's books. Kinuko Y. Craft came to the United States from Japan in the early 1960s and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. After brief periods at various art studios in the Chicago area, she devoted herself full-time to illustration in a style marked by meticulous detail and careful research of subject matter. As seen in such classic children's books as The Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Adventures of Tom Thumb and, most recently, Sleeping Beauty, her oil on watercolor paintings are lush and exquisitely rendered. As author Ray Bradbury said, "Kinuko Craft is a Renaissance woman. By this I mean not that she paints like the Renaissance painters, but that she is an artist for all season, for all kinds of subjects, and in all kinds of styles …" The awards, clients and exhibits of Kinuko Craft are far too numerous to mention here, but suffice it to say that the Norfolk Library is proud and excited to present the work of this world-renowned artist and Norfolk resident. |
