A Musical Shepherd

By Florence Vining Thomen, East Canaan

I would like to draw your attention to an exceptional individual, a truly unique and versatile character in our midst. A respected book states that one is usually not recognized and given the respect due him in his own community. But this man is the exception.

In our town, you will see this athletic young man taking his daily exercise by striding along its sidewalks to maintain perfect fitness. Oh, yes, he is the epitome of health, someone whose regimen is disciplined in all areas.

What else is exceptional about him? He is a composer of music in a variety of styles. His second CD is being launched at the beginning of this new year. This talented artist presents a reverent handling of today's heartaches and yearnings. These tender outpourings from his very soul seem to touch one's spirit. Descriptive phrases cling to the consciousness, lingering there for hours. His haunting melodies seem to rise out of our spirituals needs, reaching our hearts, like the touch of God's hand—a refreshing rendition of concepts that offer consolation and comfort to the spirit-seeking world around us.

His lyrics are presented in a delightfully poetic style, and sung with an exceptional range of voice. His adept handling of his special keyboard makes for gentle, yet stirring renditions. One is taken out of one's troubled world and lulled into a mesmerizing state of euphoria. He seems to present the solution for each troubling situation by appealing to God for His healing hand. One gets the feeling that it can be a better world if love of our fellow man is applied. Yes, love is the key to Peace on Earth. He states that we must reach out and love each other, as we love ourselves.

What are his other attributes? Almost daily he presents his musical talents at churches and nursing homes, schools, weddings, and funerals. He has a charisma that makes him welcome and popular wherever he goes. His is a love of every living thing; his manner is never bombastic, but gentle and persuasive. He exemplifies the new approach to peace and harmony by his philosophy, which is "God is Love, and Love is all there is."

Who is this unusual and intriguing person? With his talent, his name will, one day, become a household word! He is Chuck Conlogue. I might add that our soon-to-be restored railroad station in Canaan will be memorialized by Chuck's upcoming CD of original railroad melodies. Just watch this local, inspired personality. His day is dawning!
