Saint Valentine

Saint Valentine was very wise—

He knew what life is all about.

So, with his name we symbolize

What humans cannot live without.

But he was practical as well—

He knew of love and its caprices,

Like grandpa dating sweet young things

And introducing them as nieces!

One day each year is set aside

Whereon a man, espoused for life,

Can send his lady-fair sweet thoughts,

Though she be someone else's wife.

But one small day is not enough—

It leaves three hundred sixty-four.

Were I to tell you all my love

T'would take at least a thousand more.
