Food for Thought
Has Gary Hart ever sent Bill Clinton a thank you note for lowering moral and ethical standards for presidents, thereby making it possible for Gary to run for that office again? Since women have been winning battles with men at home and in courts for years, why not draft them for combat? Enemy troops might surrender just to avoid their secret weapon—verbal abuse. In a strictly racist move, Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) recently called for a return to the military draft. The implication was that a disproportionate number of blacks serve in combat. How does he explain the facts that show that while blacks make up 12% of the U.S. population, they make up only 10.6% of our combat infantry men? If the UN is so satisfied with Iraq's openness and cooperation, would they consider moving their headquarters there? Since many of the member nations—including some we saved from annihilation in WWII—have, for ten years, violated sanctions against Iraq, this would be to their advantage. If those who favor Title IX for equal opportunity in sports participation really want both sexes treated equally, why don't they insist that both girls and boys be allowed to simply compete in all sports—on the same teams? UN inspectors now say, one week before a report is due, that Saddam Hussein has promised to be more accommodating and provide documents missing from the "complete" declaration originally required by UN resolution 1441. How long will it take for the UN and our allies to realize Iraq is playing them for the fools he has made of them for ten years? When will the University of Michigan complete their racial preference/ diversity program and apply it to their football and basketball teams? White athletes appear to be terribly under-represented. Who could possibly object to applying this standard to all areas of university life? |
