Donald Jones Receives Mental Health Grant This year's Stefano Frigo Mental Health Grant has been awarded to Donald Jones. The grant, which is made each spring semester to a UConn Torrington Campus student studying in a mental health related field, is in the amount of $750. Donald Jones, who lives in Thomaston, received an A.S. degree from Northwestern CT Community College in 1975. He returned to school at UConn in 2001. Mr. Jones is currently working as a full-time substance abuse counselor at the Veteran's Memorial Medical Center in the Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. He is the co-leader in group therapy, and works with education and psycho-education groups. His clinical duties include assessment, evaluation, and individual counseling. The Stefano Frigo Mental Health Grant has been created by the family adhering to the philosophy of company founder Stefano Frigo, former president David A. Frigo, and Maria Stafford, its current president. The Frigo family has also created the Adelina Frigo Student Essay Award of $100 to be given out at the May B.G.S. graduation reception to the student whose paper in a mental health related discipline was considered to be the best such paper during the academic year. The judging committee will be composed of faculty and staff at the campus, as well as a member of the Frigo family. All submissions will be nominated by UConn faculty and must be received by the judges by May 1. |
